Today I’ll give the analogy to life of Alice in Wonderland and down the rabbit hole. Not that I’ve ever read it, but still. I think I basically get the concept! Anyway, here goes.
As we travel down the rabbit hole aka start to explore the mystery! that is life, we start to see portals to novel, far-flung realms. And it is based on our dispositions and inclinations that we actually explore some of these realms. And some of them tend to really mesh with us, and they stick around. Meanwhile others don’t really strike a chord, and so, just peace out. We go our separate ways.
The elements that stick around with us as we travel down the rabbit hole are, sometimes… the only word we can use for it is serendipitous. Here’s an example from my own life – translation. So the way I got into it was I liked reading webnovels, I saw a donation button on chapters and so hey I thought maybe I could earn a bit of money doing that!
So, I just did a sample chapter, popped in an email and voila! Thousands of hours of my life, just like that. And could I have expected initially what I was getting myself into? Nope. Thoroughly not. It just was.
Sometimes the elements that stick with us come in quite late down our journey through the rabbit hole. For instance, in a real-life example of mine, singing. Like it’s been literally less than five years since I learnt it! And yet it’s integrated into a relatively crucial component of life for me at the moment, I would say. And did I know this would become this integral element of mine back then? No! Not at all! It was just learning a new thing for fun!
Meanwhile some other new things that learnt for fun thoroughly just didn’t stick around at all. For instance, martial arts. Yeah, I tried out taekwondo for a bit, muay thai for a bit, karate for a bit, Wing Chun for a bit, and such, but did martial arts ultimately become meshed into my life as a core ingredient? No it did not! And could I have known then that they were not here to stay, but only fleeting passer-bys? Nuh- uh!
And therefore, the conclusion is obvious – life is a wild and wondrous journey, wherein oftentimes, at least at the start, we simply cannot know what element, what ingredient will be planted into our soil, enmeshed into our lives. The sole!! thing we can do is, simply, yeah! Just try them out by one! Life is a series of experiences, in which we savour flavour after flavour. Like we don’t know the end of a novel before reading it, really!!!
What can?? we do but go one step at a time, try out what excites us then, in the present moment, and see where it all leads us eventually?!
And in this mind-bending journey of life where we go down the rabbit hole, encounter fantastical new realms, and try out some of them, how do we proceed?? Why, the answer appears certain! We follow the signposts of what resonates with us, our passion, our excitement!
For instance, you’re in school and you’re asked to choose a club. For a majority of the clubs, you feel absolutely neutral and nothing at all. A club or two you might even dislike. However, there are a couple that cause your heart to race! Why then! That’s the club for you! That’s how!!! you’ll proceed forward!
Now, entering spirituality for a bit, one could say that we are the universe, here to experience ourselves in different personalities and vessels. We are all unique, one-of-a-kind, and valuable! in who we are.
Additionally, it is a stone hard fact that we have limited energies in our existence. Let’s say that we are talented and can potentially enter and even do well in various different domains. But still! As a physical construct limited by time. Is it remotely possible for us to go fulfil all of them?! No!! Not in the slightest!! Rather, we can only pick a couple and proceed down these paths, becoming a master of few.
Therefore, considering that we can only pick a few paths to travel down, is it not evident that passion, or excitement, would be a perfect signpost! to lead us down the path??
In addition, simply consider for a few moments how there are several things that we are technically capable of comprehending, even agree with really, but honestly incapable of resonating with all that much! …Take for example this blog post. Yes, in all honesty, I can indeed comprehend that only a subset of people will be able to resonate with it more deeply and really enjoy reading it, however good it might be.
Note: resonate here is more like… it sparks something within you! In the sense that you can totally agree with something, or support it as a cause or see how it’s good, but… it simply ends there! You aren’t fervent about it, you’re not going to take much away from it and you’re not going to be driven to action because of it. And that’s totally something natural truly.
Peace! That simply is the way things are.
I myself can point to things that are similar for me!
For instance, I have a friend on Facebook who’s always posting about the atrocities in Gaza and all that. I totally support that really. Yet is it the case that I myself might go post about all that regularly? No! And why is that so? Because it doesn’t spark me up the same way it sparks him up!!!
Another example. I was sitting in this lecture the other day about some past theatrical works in my country. Some people were all ooh! and yeah!!, isn’t it like this! and oh this makes me think about this!!!
Yet while I was totally able to comprehend and technically somewhat still able to appreciate the lecture, I can say with full certainty that I myself had a much more lacklustre reception of its contents. And obviously, there is no problem at all with that!! The genre itself means so much!! As in, were the topic of the lecture about, say, this particular kind of topic I like to blog about, I’m soo!! sure I would have chimed in much more!
As opposed to a mere feeling of – Oh, that’s how it is? I see. Okay! Nice. Moving on!! And just on to the next slide and the next, without any real anticipation for what was coming next.
That’s just life people.
Take this universe as one big pie. The pie is split into many, many different portions and everyone gets a different slice of it. Really! Isn’t it just so perfectly natural that you have a different overall fragment of interests from everyone else?! And all you can do as you are, is…
Really! Let’s say you’re interested about something. And let’s say you are someone who posts on social media on a regular enough basis, perhaps, let’s say, a few times a week. Well! Isn’t it obvious that what you are interested in, and what you post about – they do converge? Truly if you try to go talk a bit about something else it’s too fake and too much having to really force yourself or what do you even have to say about it?
As the slice of the pie of itself that the universe has gifted you with, really, all you can do is strive to be your highest expression of you, based on said gifts and dispositions! Doing so it just flows… truly. Naturally! Cause that just is who you are!!!
Returning to the rabbit hole that is the life journey within the universe.
Some things just really spark your candle! You are enthused about them and there isn’t really any real logical explanation. Why! Just let that be a part of your life yo. Some things you just feel inexplicably drawn towards! Well! Just spend a little bit! of time doing it everyday yo.
Doing so, you will come to find that, at least on the hedonistic pain-pleasure scale, you’ll find that you’re added to a little more everyday!
And let us not forget about how we’re limited beings in space and time. There’s only so much we can devote our energies to! Well! In that case, please, just devote them to those that ‘pack a charge’ for ya!
And going back to the rabbit hole, two things I guess. First:
Let loose! Try out all those new things! Who knows what might become this long term inhabitant of your life!!! Second:
If there’s this thing that you feel you would quite like to try because you feel like it has the potential to expand your life, but at the same time you’re a little bit fearful because you don’t know if it’ll ultimately work out or not – go for it human! Just take a chance on yourself. That is literally!!! the only way things might just possibly work out for ya see!
On a side note, I do kinda have one myself! See, as someone who is one foot in the singer-songwriter hobby, yet is totally minimal in the area of composing, I was thinking of trying out stuff like composing, transcribing, DAWs and all that for a bit.,, Yeah…
And so, I guess I’ll probably take that step soon, venturing out of my comfort zone and trying something totally unbeknownst to the me of the present… as for how it goes, we’ll see. I can only trust that it’s all part of the process, and ultimately, it’ll all work out anyways as I identify, then secure all the ingredients of my ‘pie’ to be integrated into my life!! As the universe blessed me with in its blueprint of me outside of time!
But well, enough said about that. I’m going to end this article here. Just want to comment that I’m quite happy about how this article went! See, it’s totally unscripted in the sense that I just let whatever! come out into writing through me, flow outta you know? But overall, yeah, all good!
